Hello. My name is Cindy Voigt, and I would like to introduce myself as a new member to the Blue Door Educational team. I am a math and science group tutor that will be teaching at BlueDoor this coming year. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Humboldt State University in which my major was Mathematics and Physical Science (Physics). I am currently a student of Masters of Math Education through Purdue University distance learner program, I will complete this Spring 2020. I was in the teacher prep program in my bachelor degree but decided to leave that program and venture into engineering. I worked as a Process Engineer in the Semiconductor/ Computer industry for about 8 years. I worked for Micron in Boise, Idaho and then Watkins-Johnson in Santa Cruz, California. About 7 years ago I was called back to teaching and began tutoring students of friends and family. I realized I had a passion for educating and inspiring the next generation in math and science. I want to help fill the gap for homeschool parents in these subjects and inspire the next Maxwell’s and Einstein’s of this generation. I have worked for several small co-ops in the Auburn/Grass Valley area and have many individual students. Excited to join you on your education journey.

Hello Families!
I actively work as Head Instructor at The Tutoring Center where I tutor preK through 12th grade. I am a homeschool mom of two beautiful children, 6 and 3, and wife to a great husband, and sometimes third child. My family and I have so much fun together, mainly outdoors. We enjoy backpacking, camping, climbing, kayaking, hiking and lots of river days. In the winter we play board games like Heroscape and Catan and stay up late by the fire reading Tolkien aloud. I love history, literature, art, and CHILDREN. I always try to respond to children using a full brain, growth mindset approach. I so look forward to helping your little ones experience the world in all the wonderful ways!

Ever since I was little, I was drawn to art. I have been enrolled in multiple art classes every semester of school since 1st grade. Being homeschooled my entire life, allowed me to explore different avenues for art. These art classes pointed me to my true desire, which is to be able to draw anything and everything. My motto is that if you see it, you can draw it. My goal is to teach students the foundations of drawing, that can be applied to any art style. My personal favorite art styles are; anime, and cartoon. I love learning the realistic side of art, because you can take those skills and apply them to any other art style you want. I am very excited to get to know my students and help them grow in their gifts. If you think you can’t draw, then with some practice and time, I firmly believe that you can do it. Art is for everyone, not just the artists.

As a young girl, Denise had always known she would be involved in music somehow. She began her journey at age 8 when she began piano lessons and at age 10 vocal lessons. She played for her church and church choir and was in several talent competitions throughout her teen years. At age 17 she led her youth choir and conducted several productions. In her early 20s she formed a band and traveled to several churches performing and even writing and producing an album. One of her songs won a state wide competition in which she had her song played on The Fish Radio Station and her band got a article in the Newspaper. Settling down and having twin boys she began leading worship and was the main pianist at New Life Community church for 13 Years. She was involved in several musical productions working in costuming, make up, back staging as well as performing and managing. She was Interim worship pastor for two years where she directed choir and lead worship teams. She currently plays piano at Destiny church and volunteers there. She has been giving voice and piano lessons for 13 years and has been a vendor for South Sutter, Visions and Horizons. One of her students is following her dreams in Nashville as a country music artist and another student has made it through the first rounds of The Voice.

Film
Description:
The theory portion of this course provides students with an opportunity to study the history of film and American history through movies while improving their analytical, writing, presentation, and evaluation skills. This course surveys the history of American films from inception in the late 19th century with a focus and emphasis on today’s film industry. Students will learn to evaluate the medium of film as an art form and understand its significance as an instrument of cultural diffusion in American history. Students will also analyze film as a reflection of the larger trends in popular culture, with an emphasis on how film reflects the issues of gender, race, and class in American society. Storytelling is the most common way that we communicate with one another. Stories told with film have a tremendous influence on our attitudes and perceptions of the world around us. In fact, films may be one of the most powerful tools in modern culture for shaping values and conveying information. By viewing, studying, discussing and writing about film, students develop and demonstrate skills in technological, cultural, and media literacy, as well as critical thinking and problem solving – skills that will serve them well in the adult world.

Mixed Media will present basic collage methods and ideas.
Collage is a medium that bridges aspects of drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, and print.
It is as much a way of thinking as of making. This class will present methods of cutting apart and connecting, collecting and arranging, gluing, attaching, and building materials into pictorial images and designs. Issues of continuity and discontinuity will be considered, as within the fragmented space of pictures, materials, identities, and information in contemporary life. Class time will include lectures that present work by modern and contemporary artists, technical demonstrations, and time to work on projects that explore technical processes and concepts presented.
